Scragh Bog Nature Reserve

Scragh Bog Nature Reserve is situated approximately 3k north of Mullingar, Westmeath (latitude: 53.579 longitude: -7.36) and is one of the few remaining acidic raised bogs in Europe. The bog contains a large number of uncommon plants and insects rare in Europe. Scragh Bog is a state run nature reserve and just one of the many hidden gems in Westmeath, Irelands Ancient East. We at Escape to Ireland are happy to have our head office in Westmeath as it is the heart of Ireland and full of magical places to visit.

At Escape to Ireland we organise guided walks anywhere in the country 🇮🇪💪🍀 Ireland’s Ancient East is a wonderful place to visit.

  1. I love Scragh Bog and was very happy to find it through the video on the Escape to Ireland Facebook page. I’d only been living in Mullingar for 20+ years.
